Make these light-as-air POPOVERS with local ingredients

Just five simple ingredients make the best accompaniment to any beef recipe.

  • Eggs - Many local farmers raise chickens and sell their eggs. Ask around for someone close to you

  • Milk - Look for Bessie’s Best delivered to local grocers from Sterling, ND

  • Flour - Check out “Dakota Maid” flour, made from ND grown wheat, which is milled, packaged and sold at the ND Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks

  • Butter - One of our favorites comes from Pride Dairy in Bottineau, ND

  • Salt - there are a lot of salt deposits in ND, but not any we could find that resulted in table salt

Local Recipe Kickoff

Our collection of local recipes kicks off with one from the family of Vision West ND’s president, Daryl Dukart. The recipe is a favorite that was found in Dickinson’s St. Wenceslaus Church cookbook. If you are going to make this great cake, be sure to go to your local grocer to get the ingredients. We all need to do what we can to keep our local, small town grocery stores in business! Enjoy this easy and really delicious cake.
